CLARE JONES
SENIOR CONSULTANT SOLICITOR
Year of admission: 1991
Clare qualified as a solicitor over 30 years ago and is a highly knowledgeable commercial litigator who has handled a wide variety of actions brought in both the King’s Bench and Chancery Divisions of the High Court and in the County Court, including the Commercial Court. She also has experience of international arbitration (recently under the LCIA rules and on an ad hoc basis). Clients include foreign companies, banks, start-ups and SMEs and high net worth individuals. The cases on which she acts often have an international element.
Clare uses this wealth of experience to work with clients to find cost-effective and practical solutions to disputes. She works with a client to understand attitudes to risk and cost to determine the best strategy. Clare is a firm believer in the potential advantages offered by ADR, particularly mediation, at the right stage of proceedings.
Recent experience includes:
Acting for a Dubai-based lender in disputes concerning the recoverability of various debts, resulting in arbitral awards for the full amount of the sums due.
Acting for a US corporate victim of malicious misdirection push-payment fraud, leading to the successful recovery of funds for the client.
Acting for Canadian and English companies whose confidential information had been misappropriated by former directors/employees; obtaining an injunction and settling the claim on favourable terms following mediation.
In her spare time, Clare enjoys walking and has recently completed a 250km stretch of the Portuguese Camino between Porto and Santiago de Compostela. Clare also volunteers with the Girlguiding movement in Hertfordshire.
